in order to form a more Artistic Union; to enhance the Social Condition; to provide for the Avant-Garde; to prevent Homeland Insecurity; to promote the Artist Voice in reshaping public policy; and to guarantee Creative Freedom for the Old, the Young and the Disenfranchised.

Introduction by Jeff Gates As technology fuels new ways of communicating, these methods, combined with economic, aesthetic and sociological components, are resulting in certain kinds of human actions that were never possible before. The blog (or Web log), a site that offers information and dialogue on a myriad of subjects - from artistic expression to political activism - is a tool that initiates these actions. Combine this form with the goals of the Experimental Party and the upcoming 2004 Presidential Election and you have a medium that will offer an artistic alternative to the spin-doctors of the Republican and Democratic parties. "We the Blog" will be the virtual community to participate in as the election rhetoric ramps up. "We the Blog" will debate the Experimental Party platform, and provide in depth analysis of inside-the-beltway political machinations (and how it reflects on our relationships with the international community).

It will also offer discussion among media artists, cultural critics and other creative people who are repositioning themselves as new leaders in the governance of this planet. A blog is not a diary, it is not dated, it is not autobiography, it is not a dreambook. Or: it can be any or all of those things but probably should not be any or all of them. It is not a web site per se, it is not even writing if you prefer to see it that way, but writing seems well-suited to the Idea of Blog, as does

Blog is more a kind of progressive codework (as lived reality) than manifested outcome. It's driven by the logic of links, oftentimes dramatically expressed in a default color that usually suggests a feeling of being blue - yet it also suggests other states of emotion such as being active, dynamic, visited, anchored, floating. Waiting to be ported somewhere, anywhere, but here. But where is here? That nagging question that all of the choragraphers keep asking as they invent the universe. Blogs could be pseudo-autobiographical works-in-progress, where the artist who creates one surfs the electrosphere for useful data, samples it, manipulates it, and then exhibits it in an online environment that makes it feel like something more than just a diary website.
