SEEKING FOOTAGE FOR A SHORT FILM PROJECT, 'OBSTRUCTION'

OPENChannel Member Jeff Riley, is currently working on a short film project called Obstruction. Obstruction will comprise a series of video sequences showing obvious attempts to frustrate the continued filming of a particular person, action or event. Mostly (but not always) these events occur as part of a public protest: an act of civil disobedience, resistance or dissent. In each case, the camera is acting merely as a witness, documenting the action and gathering evidence. Featuring images of hands (and sometimes bodies) moving to obstruct the camera lens as it records, these sequences will be relatively short - mostly ranging from 10 seconds to 20 seconds.
Obstruction will form part of an exhibition entitled PROOF - The Act of Seeing With Ones Own Eyes, and is provisionally scheduled to open on December 8th of this year, in the Screen Gallery of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image - ACMI. This exhibition will ask how consensus is formed, through works, which explore evidence, mediation and the phenomenological. It will have a political subtext.
While I have sourced a number of these sequences so far, I'm seeking assistance to locate and acquire more examples of 'obstruction'. I would be grateful to hear from you if you have, or know of any examples of deliberate obstruction that may be available for use within this film.
I can be contacted via jeffriley@optusnet.com.au or at home on 9383 7031.

INTERNATIONAL ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL REGISTRATION SYSTEM LAUNCHED

Filmmakers from around the world can now enter their work in the Oberhausen, Gothenburg and Vila do Conde film festivals by means of a new internet film submission platform called REELPORT. The online submission process was developed in reaction to the increasing number of digitally produced films received by the film festivals in recent years. The common submission platform was developed by the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, the Festival Internacional de Curtas Metragens Vila do Conde (Portugal) and the Gothenburg Film Festival (Sweden), together with technology partner Telefónica Deutschland GmbH. Submitted films are archived on the REELPORT server and transmitted as needed to festivals and film markets, where selection committees or possible buyers can examine the work. REELPORT is designed as an effective way to save money at all stages of the film submission process..
